If you’re a survivor of human trafficking, you may have adverse items of information related to criminal or eviction records on your TransUnion Rental Screening Solutions report as a result of the trafficking, you can request that the information be blocked with supporting documentation.

How to Submit a Request

You may be eligible to remove adverse items on your TransUnion Rental Screening Solutions report that resulted from human trafficking if you experienced either of the following:

  • Sex trafficking: You were recruited, transported, solicited or harbored for the purpose of a commercial sex act or you were induced into a commercial sex act by force, fraud or coercion
  • Labor trafficking: You were transported or harbored by force or fraud for slavery, debt bondage or involuntary servitude

You are required to submit certain documents with your request. You can submit these documents by mail. Please only submit photocopies of documents. Do not send originals, as they cannot be returned to you.

You’ll need to submit the following:

Proof of Your Identity (Provide 1)

  • Driver's license
  • Passport
  • Social Security card
  • Birth certificate
  • Government issued identification card
  • Utility bill

If you can't provide proof of identity from one of the documents listed, you can call us at 888‑387‑1750 to verify your identity over the phone.

Proof of Being a Victim of Trafficking (Provide 1)

You must provide proof that you were a victim of trafficking (“Victim Determination Document”). This proof may include documents issued and signed by courts or by federal, state or tribal governmental entities.

Non‑governmental organizations (NGOs) or human trafficking task forces may be able to provide documentation of your status as a victim of trafficking, if they have been authorized to do so by a federal, state or tribal government entity.

You may also self‑attest to being a victim of human trafficking via a signed statement. In order to be valid, your signed statement must also be signed or certified by a representative from a governmental entity, court, authorized NGO or authorized human trafficking task force.

Please note: TransUnion Rental Screening Solutions will verify the authenticity and validity of all documents submitted. Any individual who knowingly provides fraudulent documents or falsely claims to be a victim of trafficking may be subject to legal penalties.

Examples of Trafficking Victim Determination Documents

(Provide 1 of the following)

  • Certification letters issued by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
  • Child eligibility letters (issued by HHS)
  • Continued presence (issued by HHS)
  • T Visa (issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services)
  • A bona‑fide T Visa application
  • U Visa with a Form I‑918 Supplemental B indicating the victim experienced human trafficking
  • Restitution orders
  • Crime victim compensation
  • Criminal record relief court orders
  • Civil suit decisions related to human trafficking
  • Documents issued by state government agencies (such as Notice of Confirmation as a Human Trafficking Victim in NY State issued by the NY State's Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance)
  • A letter from a non‑governmental organization (NGO) or trafficking task force authorized by a governmental entity to make such a determination
  • Signed self‑attestation that is also signed or certified by an authorized representative from one of these:
    • Federal, state or tribal governmental entity
    • Non‑governmental organization or human trafficking task force authorized by a governmental entity
    • Court of competent jurisdiction

Keep in mind this process is only for removing adverse information resulting from human trafficking.

You may designate a representative, like your attorney, to help prepare and submit your request on your behalf. When sending your request, your representative should include proof of their identity and documentation that you have authorized them to act on your behalf.

Please note: A credit repair organization may not act as your designated representative and send a human trafficking block request on your behalf, even if you have authorized them to do so.

What happens after you submit your request?

We will process your request within 4 business days. Then, you’ll receive further communications about the status of your request, including whether we need additional information or documentation to process your request.

You may file a complaint about TransUnion Rental Screening Solutions, or the company reporting the item, with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau by visiting the CFPB’s website or by calling 855-411-CFPB (2372).
